Jerome Cabeen: Everyday People

May 2 – July 28, 2024

Rotating quarterly, AMSET’s Café Arts Series gives local artists the opportunity to feature their artwork in a museum.

The Art Museum of Southeast Texas is excited to present JEROME CABEEN: Everyday People on view from May 2 – July 28, 2024 in AMSET’s Café Arts series for local artists.

AMSET’s summer café exhibition is a solo show of local photographer Jerome Cabeen. Cabeen’s work has been featured prominently in the museum’s Café Arts space, including in a previous solo show in 2019 and in both of the Beaumont Camera Club’s annual juried exhibitions (2021 and 2023). The 2023 Camera Club group exhibition was juried by Houston-based appraiser Melanie Modica. She selected Cabeen’s photographs Caminando Hacia la Refriega and The One Eyed Jack Fleeing His Demons as best in show winners. As the Best in Show winner, Cabeen was awarded a solo exhibition in the café for 2024. Funding is generously provided by philanthropists Rob Clark and Jerry Thacker.

Cabeen is well-known in the Southeast Texas community for his photography. He is often seen at local festivals, rallies and art events with a camera in-hand. It was in 2004, when he began teaching art and directing Catholic missions internationally, that he took up photography, capturing images of the many people and cultures who became friends, neighbors and passersby. This exhibition, Everyday People, features new digital photographs of the people and places that Cabeen has experienced in his recent travels.

Join us for the opening reception on Friday, May 17, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.
